'Milk The Cow'

Good Day all. As this is my first post for our blog site, allow me to introduce myself. In the back-stories for some of the previous recipes you will know me as Dean. For the purpose of my mixing though, I prefer to go by the alias of; McCreamy. Yes, I am bamBOOZEled's resident 'milkoligist' if you will, the mind usually behind the cream based/dessert cocktails. As a result of this you will no doubt see me use liquers such as Baileys and Kahlua on a regular basis; this recipe is no different.

For those of you who havn't been living under the proverbial rock of recent, you would have no doubt noticed the numerous advertisements (mostly at bus stops I've found) for the latest product from Weis Ice Creams; The Coffee Almond Weis Bar. Now if your anything like me the sound of coffee and almond flavour combined elegantly with a perfectly measured strip of vanilla ice-cream down the side just makes my mouth water. That, and the fact Weis seemed to be spending a bucket-load on marketing, brought me to the conlcusion that this new ice-cream was the perfect inspiration for a new cocktail; hence the enticingly simple 'Milk the Cow' was born.

Add to shaker:
30ml Baileys
30ml Kahlua
30ml Amaretto
60 - 90ml of milk (depending on your taste!)
ice

Shake ingredients together.
Option 1: Strain over ice into rock glass
Option 2: Garnish a Martini glass with chocolate topping around the inside.
Strain into glass, and sprinkle with bits of shaved almond.

Enjoy!

Drink it up.

It is my strong belief that all the senses should be stimulated (word on the tip of every Australian's tongue these days)....So here's a few sly little ditties for all 3 of you who are reading. I did admittedly steal these from other blogs, mostly surfing related so i'll also point you toward these two sites which are well worth a weekly check if this sort of thing takes your fancy.

Lime Marmalade Gimlet

A gimlet is simply a base spirit (typically gin or vodka, though some even use tequila) and lime juice. Most traditional recipies use Rose's lime cordial as the mixer and although I didn't own any, I was happy to find Rose's Lime Marmalade lying in my fridge, just an honest stroke of good luck!
Lime Marmalade Gimlet.
  • 45ml Gin
  • One teaspoon Rose's Lime Marmalade
  • 10ml Lime Juice

Add ingredients to ice, shake very well to fully mix in the marmalade. Strain into glass and serve with a twist of lime or a lime wedge.

Hip Hop/RnB....the real reason for adolescent binge drinking?

Now really, T-Pain? Brothers the reason all the kids are getting juiced up these days, not the delicious alcopops!

"She made us drinks, to drink, we drunk 'em, got drunk
and now i know she thinks im cool."

"Bartender - T-Pain featuring Akon"

With discretion being the better part of valour i will control the gnawing impulses and not even get started on "Buy u a drank" (also by Monsieur "Pain"). Now having cheapened our cyber home we have here with references to such sub-standard artistry i would like to redeem myself by pointing you toward the "scroll down" button. More specifically set your peepers upon the classy, refined and tasteful (not to mention gramatically correct) work of our own Jackson White. Good tunes? Check. A fondness for quality liquer? Check. Candle lit dinners and romantic sunset beach walks? Pending. Get it while its hot ladies.

Mandarum

This drink was created through my own impulse to use the rum's I owned. I'm not a big fan of rum at all and only really use it for making mojito's...

Mandarum.

  • 30ml Coruba Jamaica Rum
  • 15ml Bacardi Oro
  • 15ml Cointreau
  • Juice of one mandarin
  • 10ml Lemon juice
  • Dash of Agnostora bitters

Add Coruba and lemon juice to the glass, muddle mandarin in shaker, add the remaining ingredients with ice and shake. Fill the glass with ice and strain contents of the shaker over the ice, carefully for a layered effect. Serve with a swizzle stick.

EDIT: Sugar-coating the rim with the juice of a mandarin would be a great way to present the drink!

Yogi Bear (inspired by the Yellow-stone park thief himself....and a bangin' smoothie from Raw Energy)

Passionfruit Amaretto Sour.
While this isn't an original drink, hot damn is it a nice drink...
  • 45ml Amaretto liquer
  • Pulp of one passionfruit
  • Granulated sugar
  • Egg white (optional)

Pour amaretto, passionfruit and egg white over ice. Shake and serve in a sugar rimmed glass. (To achieve this, run a lemon wedge around the edge of the glass and twist through the sugar). The egg white is used to keep all the ingredients together and is not a noticable taste.

An Orange Cloud

I recently went on a trip to Dan Murphy's the other day. I just love the place. There is just too much to choose from at very tempting prices (even though I honestly feel like I'm cheating some of the independent liquor shops). I told myself I had a limit of $30 dollars spending money and luckily enough I was able to pick up two favourites; a bottle of aperol and a bottle of limoncello.

My first experience of aperol was last christmas. A family friend handed me aperol topped with soda and I was immediatley hooked. An Italian aperitif, it has a nice bitter orange zest taste. The smell is very similar to redbull believe it or not. The Bowery Bar in Brisbane make a beautiful Aperol Cobbler aswell.

An Orange Cloud.
  • 60ml Cloudy Apple Juice
  • 30ml Aperol
  • 20ml Limoncello
  • 10ml Lime Juice

Add ingredients over ice, shake, strain into martini glass. Garnish with a slice of apple.

The name is awful I know, anyone got a good suggestion?

Sunburn

After returning from a day down the coast, Ben and Dean arrived at my place for a few drinks before a going-away party for a friend down the road. Trouble was they were both incredibly burnt which is never a nice feeling, particulary before heading to a social gathering.

In the process of gaining some liquid conifidence before heading to the party (or in Ben and Dean's case; something to dull the pain...), we got to work at making some drinks. After raiding the fridge for some ingredients, I came across some blueberries and strawberries. I knew I would need to use them in a drink now I had a craving for them.

So from the berries, coupled with a desire to use gin in a cocktail; Comes a tribute to Dean and Ben's suffering...

Sunburn.
  • 6 Strawberries, Quartered
  • 10 Blueberries
  • 10ml Lime Juice
  • Simple Sugar Syrup
  • 30ml Tanqueray Gin
  • 15ml Cointreau

Muddle the berries, add ice and remaining ingredients. Shake and strain onto ice. Garnish with strawberry slices and whole blueberries. Top with soda water if needed.
